What is Ptosis or Droopy Eyelid surgery?
Ptosis or Droopy Eyelid surgery refers an eyelid that hangs too low because of weakened internal tendons or muscles. Repair can create a more natural and refreshed appearance. Most procedures are performed in an outpatient surgery center under twilight-sleep anesthesia lasting ten to twenty minutes.

Who should consider Ptosis or Droopy Eyelid surgery?
Ptosis or Droopy Eyelid surgery is for persons who wish to improve or correct a droopy appearance around the eyes that may interfere with vision. Please note that this is different than a Blepharoplasty procedure that removes puffy fat or extra eyelid skin.

Will I experience any discomfort during the treatment?
Procedures are performed under "twilight-sleep" anesthesia. last from 10 to 20 minutes and you should experience no discomfort or anxiety during the procedures.

How expensive is laser eyelid surgery?
Generally speaking, insurance will cover the cost for repair of a medically necessary drooping of the eyelids.

Will insurance cover the cost of upper eyelid surgery?
Insurance will often cover upper eyelid surgery if:

  1. You notice interference from the eyelids blocking your vision, and
  2. This shows on a photograph, and
  3. Your lids show enough loss of vision on a visual field testing, and
  4. The visual fields and photos meet your insurance company’s specific criteria.

We will submit this information to your insurance company for predetermination if we feel you meet reasonable criteria. During your consultation, Dr. Khan can determine whether or not it is worthwhile obtaining testing for insurance coverage. Insurance will not cover puffy or wrinkled lower eyelids.
