Volunteer Eye and Dental Surgery in Honduras

For several years now I have been performing volunteer eye surgery at the CCSM Eye and Dental Clinic in El Progresso, Honduras.  The clinic is well equipped for cataract, retina, plastics, glaucoma, pediatric and dental surgery.  Specialty surgery is routinely provided by visiting US physicians.

Direct flights from the USA are about 2' 20" to San Pedro Sula and are available from Houston and Miami.  You are met at the airport by clinic staff and it is about 15 minutes to your hotel.  The location is suitable for children ages 15 and older.

Specialty cases are screened during the year and I will usually review 25 patients Monday morning, and perform 5-6 surgeries that afternoon and several more on Tuesday.  Wednesday AM post ops are seen if necessary and then the remainder of the week is travel to nearby beaches at Tela (one hour), botanical garden (one hour) or world famous Mayan Ruins in Copan (3 hours).  In Copan one can also go horseback riding, zipline, visit nearby hot springs, visit local museums, and soak up the impressive local charm of a cobblestoned village with high quality tourist amenities.
